Born in Israel in 1967, Ori Gersht has lived in London for more than 20 years. His trench is concerned with the relationships between history, memory and vista. He explores the difficulties of visually representing conflict and beastly events or histories by pushing the technical limitations of taking photographs, questioning its claim to truth. Gersht's imagery is strangely attractive, presenting a compulsive tension between beauty and violence. He has explored his own family’s Holocaust experiences, created a series leverage post-conflict landscapes in Bosnia and a trilogy of slow-motion films in which traditional still lives explode on screen.
